It’s been 5 weeks since I last sat down to write a blog post, time flies when you’re having fun, I guess!
It’s been a while since I last posted! Since summer’s just begun, I’ve been focussing a lot of my time surrounding myself with friends, going to the gym & cleaning (ugh!) but next on my long list of ‘things to get done before July’ is to focus more time on my blog.
AN INSIGHT INTO WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND THE CURTAIN…
One thing I’ve realised about my job is that there is a lot more to it than meets the eye, much of the hard work cabin crew do is overlooked, a lot of people see the travelling as something of a dream (which it is, of course!) but a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes. This, I guess, is why I had 6 weeks of training. So I thought I’d take the opportunity to share what we really do… From waking up in the morning, to boarding the plane, carrying out the inflight service & arriving at my destination, I’ve broken my ‘everyday’ down into little stages, I hope you enjoy it!
Malaysia is a place I’ve been looking forward to visiting ever since I passed my training on the 787 aircraft. My boyfriend Mark, who visited Malaysia and Borneo back in 2014, tells the best stories about his trip! So naturally, when I was scheduled a flight to Kuala Lumpur he filled me in on everything to do and see in the city!
I’d been hoping for a trip to Tel Aviv for a long time before a little 15 hour layover cropped up on my roster for March! Of course, I’m not completely oblivious to the instability within the Middle East at this time, however the area fascinates me and the thought of visiting Israel, one of the most culturally diverse countries within the Middle East struck me as an exciting adventure, and so, naturally, I was desperate to make plans to explore its culture during my short visit there!
My job is wonderful as it allows me to see so many different countries, however sometimes all the flying really does take it’s toll on my skin, especially when I’m flying through the night! After working as a Flight Attendant for almost a year and a half, consistently trying and testing different skincare brands and reading endless amounts of reviews, I think (fingers crossed) I may have finally cracked it!
Cape Town! Another one of my favourite destinations! Being a Flight Attendant allows me to bid for the trips I enjoy the most and, as you can imagine, Cape Town is always at the top of my list, especially at this time of year when the sun is shining and there’s not a cloud in the sky! This month I was lucky enough to get a trip that gave me an extra day and night in the city, and even better, I was spending the trip with one of my best flying friends! We had the best time together over the three days…
The United Arab Emirates… Somewhere I had always been curious about, a culture very different to ours at home, but somewhat western in it’s outlook!
After visiting Marrakech in the summer, I was desperate to experience a different ‘side’ to Islamic culture and so I decided it was time to bid for a trip to the UAE with work, first stop… ABU DHABI.
The Windy City, my favourite city in the USA, and possibly the most beautiful too! I visited in August and spent the entire day lazing on North Avenue Beach in the sunshine, but despite the glowing summer sun reflecting off Lake Michigan between May and September, I think the true beauty of the city blossoms in the Winter, although the wind chill is definitely something to be wary about! I will always remember attempting to walk to the pancake house mid-January last year, it was -17 Celsius and I couldn’t feel my face, or legs! Needless to say I didn’t make it and instead, settled for one of the hotel’s all-american hot chocolates, topped with whipped cream and marshmallows to help me to defrost. The city has a New York vibe to it, but swap overcrowded streets for wide walkways and NYC cheesecake for Chicago’s famous deep dish, mozzarella-filled shortcrust pizza! Sold it yet?
I’m Emily and I’m a Flight Attendant based in London, UK. I’ve been travelling for almost 18 months now, in that time I have visited over 25 countries in 5 continents including 8 US states. I have taken trips to places I had only ever dreamed of visiting, and some places I never even knew existed!
